Positive Contribution
Snowy Owls Class - March 2010
Lauren from Snowy Owls has been busy preparing for an Oxley Park photographic competition. She has written a letter to Argos asking for a donation of toys for the prize winners and Argos kindly responded by sending us lots of toys and board games. A copy of Lauren's letter can be read below (click for an larger version).

No Cars Day, Walk to School - February 2010
On Thursday 11th February Oxley Park staff and children all tried their best to get into school without using cars. In a bid to reduce our Carbon Footprint the staff car park was empty and we had record numbers of children joining our walking bus. The children had been working all week creating presentations which can be seen on our Pupils Work page and also handing out leaflets to parents encouraging them to swap 4 wheels for 2 feet and walk to school. We are hoping to be able to run this each Thursday and make our own positive contribution by reducing Co2 emissions.
Haiti Fundraising - January 2010
On Friday 22nd January we held a non-school uniform day to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake appeal. Along with the donations from all the parents, the children made and sold cakes in school to raise even more money. We managed to raise an outstanding £935.15. Thank you for all your donations.
Breast Cancer fundraising
In foxes' class the children made and sold cakes to raise money for Breast Cancer. We collected £25.
Plastic Milk Bottle Tops
Whats been happening to all those Red, Green & Blue milk bottle tops you have been bringing into school? Well they eventually go to a charity in Southampton who sells them to a nearby company to be recycled into other useful things.
Your tops are collected from school by a member of the Milton Keynes Community Cardiac Group, and along with others collected from various places over Milton Keynes, are taken by a volunteer down to a charity in Southampton. They are then mixed with all the others from all over the country and weighed into 1 tonne loads and sold to a plastic moulding company who make wheelie bins, seats, garden furniture and other items; thus totally recycling them. Milk bottle tops were chosen as they are easy to handle and there are plenty of them available.
The money raised from the sale of the milk bottle tops goes to a registered charity called The Rose Road Association and is used to buy wheelchairs, music therapy equipment and lots of other items for disabled children that are not provided to them.
Milton Keynes Community Cardiac Group is a locally based registered charity who provide exercise, relaxation and support to people with heart conditions, utilising the skills of trained professionals in various fields and are affiliated to the British Heart Foundation.
On behalf of both charities we thank you very much for bringing your milk bottle tops into school - keep them coming and give as many as you can to Mr Smith!
RolyPig Composter & Environmental Area
Oxley Parks Eco Council have regular lunchtimes meetings and have decided to invest in a RolyPig Composter and Wormery for our environmental area. Here are some photos of us putting the wormery together - it's now full up with 500 worms who slowy consume all of our food scraps. Along with our composter we should have lots of nice fertilizer ready to put in the garden this summer.
